About Artist Leslie Pierce

Leslie Pierce is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist, known for art that focuses on people in environments juxtaposed with coding systems, technology, and social fragmentation. Her a-ha moment came while she was printing a reference image, as her printer was running out of ink. The print portrayed positive and negative vertical banding of color, showing abstract figuration in a new way. Pierce began painting vertical lines in oil paint to generate value, form, space, time, and place. Form and value seem to be ironed out in space, while simultaneously standing up, suspended in time. Pierce also works in Video Art as an extension of the paintings. These concepts are contrasted in luscious palettes of ice cream colors that flourish in slice-of-life scenes.

Leslie Pierce is honored to have one of her pieces in the permanent collection of The Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin and has been awarded multiple Special Projects grants in Austin and San Diego to expand her work.

She holds two art degrees: a B.F.A. from The University of Texas at Austin and an Associate degree in Video Game Art from A.C.C.

While living in Austin, she organized and curated group art exhibits, taught Painting and Drawing for the Austin Museum of Art’s Art School at Laguna Gloria, and founded and hosted a popular all-male model Life Drawing and Painting group for the Austin Visual Arts Association.

Leslie moved to San Diego in 2014 and paints and teaches at her studio gallery in Arts District Liberty Station. She continues to work on series involving present events, adding new paintings and multi-media components, including Video Art and 3D.

She serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Museum of Art Artist Guild and is Co-Chair of the Exhibitions Committee. Leslie is the lead on “The Art of Now- Pushing Boundaries” exhibition taking place in June 2026 at Union Hall Gallery in San Diego.
