Juror for “Timeless Traditions, Modern Context” at the Palm Desert Artists Center Exhibition.

I am writing about my wonderful experience as a juror for the “Timeless Traditions, Modern Context”, art exhibition in Palm Desert, CA. The jurying process of artwork took place in early January 2026. I was so honored to be a juror along with Isotta Poggi and asked by Merritt Price to participate! Both have worked for The Getty for years. The exhibition, "Timeless Traditions, Modern Context," opened on February 5th. There were over 400 people in attendance and I spoke to the crowd on opening night. I spent 2 days in Palm Desert and 1 day in Palm Springs. On my way to the Palms Springs Art Museum I took a detour to Shields Date Garden and ordered a Date shake- a recommendation from our friends at Union Hall Gallery. Both the date shake and the Museum were amazing. I visited “The Female Form:Tom Wesselmann & Mickalene Thomas from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation” exhibit and loved it along with seeing a large multimedia piece in another area of the Museum by L.A. based artist Gabriela Ruiz. Fabulous!

My fine art photo selfie, created before there were iPhones, has been juried into an exciting MOPA@ SDMA Exhibition that will be open to the public from November 9, 2024, through March 9, 2025. This is truly an honor I am grateful for.

The story of this analog photograph titled, “How Do I Get Out of This Creative Block?” includes a time travel journey with hand developing Black and White film, using an enlarger, and hand printing photographs in one of my many kitchen darkrooms. I created a technique of placing different sheets of rice paper over the photo paper while enlarging the image, creating the illusion of paintbrush textures. Afterward, I hand-painted this one using watercolor and oil paint. I am very honored in multiple ways!
My image was also chosen by the Museum for their Art banners for the upcoming Exhibition! What an honor.

The exhibition is up from November 7, 2024, through March 9, 2025.
