What is Pop Surrealism? “Pop surrealism, also known as the lowbrow art movement, is a contemporary art movement that emerged from the Los Angeles underground scene in the late 1960s. It combines the imaginative and often bizarre elements of Surrealism with the imagery and themes of Pop culture, including underground comix, punk music, hot-rod culture, and graffiti. The style is characterized by a skilled, satirical sense of humor and accessible, unconventional themes that critique contemporary society. “
